Yes, it’s another “homemade” recipe! I guess this has been my new New Year’s resolution- just to try to make more things from scratch, mainly bc of the control you have in what ingredients go into your food.
This is a particularly good recipe for us, since the kids love apple sauce. And, as I don’t think I’ll be able to break them away from apple juice any time soon (they’re obsessed!), it’s good to find other ways of eliminating some of their daily sugar!
Anyway, I found a “recipe” online (YouTube) on how to make applesauce. I say recipe-in-quotes bc there’s no real recipe, just a guide on how to do it. There’s loads of room for interpretation. For example, one lady only uses MacIntosh apples for her sauce, but as I only have Fuji apples in the fridge, that’s what we’re going to use. One woman peeled hers; another didn’t.
So, here goes!
I had three giant Fuji apples, and I think that’s all I’ll use right now- I’m hoping to learn to can things in the future, but since I don’t know how to do that right now, I’m just making a small batch that could be eaten pretty quickly.
For this project, I also just bought an apple corer. Sounds dumb, but I’m pretty excited about it, mainly bc w/it, I just peeled and cored the apples in under a minute! Amazing!
Now, into a bowl of cold water, just so the apples don’t get too brown:
Drain out some of the water, and start cooking them! I think I only have about…1/2″ of water in the pot, and it’s on low-heat. They’ll probably cook for about 25 minutes. (Oh, also- I’m trying to limit the sugar, so as of right now, I have 1/3 cup of sugar, and I’m sprinkling it in now and then. I may add more at the end, if it’s way too bland, but we’ll see!)
I also squeezed half a lemon over it…bc that’s what one of the videos mentioned! To keep it from turning brown?
Be back soon w/an update!

So, after about 25-30 minutes, I think it’s all set!
Once it seemed prettty smushy (above), I added in the pinch of salt, and then mixed it all up w/a hand mixer.
So…it’s finished! Too easy! However, I wish I had used less sugar- even the 1/3 cup seems a bit too much! Might add more apples to it…
Enjoy! 🙂
