After using the slow-cooker last week, I decided to find another good recipe that could be tossed into it again.  I love slow-cooker meals, and this one sounds delicious– although, any recipe, I think, that includes an entire bottle of wine would sound perfect! 😉

I found this recipe on the Williams-Sonoma website, and although it’s a tad fiddly (I’ve been here chopping/browning things for about an hour), it’s meant to cook on its own for the next 6-8 hours.  Which means, my dinner is already technically finished at 12:15!

Anyway, it starts out w/the stew meat- you toss it in flour, and then add it to a pan to brown:

Then, after removing the meat to the slow-cooker, you add bacon, onions, carrots, and chopped garlic to the pan:

When those are finished sauteing for a bit, add the pan contents to the slow-cooker, along w/chopped mushrooms, parsley, thyme, and a bay leaf:

Next up, the wine- seriously, it’s a whole bottle!  However, since I didn’t make the full amounts in the recipe (cut it down a bit), I only added about 3/4 of the bottle.  Still…lots of wine.  This recipe used demi-glace, and since I had no idea what that was, I searched online a bit, and found that it seems to be a reduction of beef stock w/a touch of wine.  So, this morning, I simmered a few cups of beef stock to get one tablespoon of “demi-glace.”  Anyway, that gets whisked into the wine, and once the wine hits a boil, add it to the slow-cooker, as well:

Now, all that’s left to do is…wait.  I’ll be back in about…let’s see, 7(ish) hours?  E usually gets home around 7, so, we’ll see how it goes a bit later!

So, after all the waiting, it was…kinda gross!

I think it was due to all the mushrooms- slowcooking mushrooms only makes…mushroom mush, and…ugh, I don’t know that anyone likes mushrooms that much to deal w/slimy mushroom-flavored mush.  Gross.  I tried serving it over steamed potatoes:

In the words of Gordon Ramsay, "it looks like a dog's dinner!"

And, it didn’t taste much better, either!  I really think it was the smushed mushrooms…blech!

I think I need to try a new beef bourguignonne recipe- this was…not good!  If anyone has a good recipe, let me know!
