So, next up from “The Book Lover’s Cookbook” is some (hopefully) good chili!  It’s a vegetarian recipe, but, as I still can’t quite bring myself to completely give up meat, I’ll be adding some browned ground beef.  Yum.

I couldn’t bring myself to buy canned kidney beans- for some reason, that just felt wrong, when there are bags of dried beans sitting right in my cabinet at home.  So, foregoing the canned beans, I’ve been boiling the dried beans for…about an hour now- almost ready, according to their packaging.  We’ll see…  Hopefully the husband won’t be home too soon!  Ugh, this bugs me- this is one of those meals that I’m actually enjoying, because it takes awhile, and what do I do? Try to cram it all in in about an hours time.  So dumb…

Well, it’s finished…

…and, apparently it’s strange that I used a skillet, instead of a pot.  Whatever.  Anyway, it’s done, and has been eaten, but- it’s not so much “innocent” as just plain bland.  Meh.  I’m not sure what it’s missing, but it’s definitely missing something.  E said he liked it, and that he’d eat it if I made it again; not bad, I guess.  I don’t think I’m a huge fan of this recipe- might try another from scratch chili recipe…or, I’ll just stick to the stuff from a can.  (Yum).
